Jesus Christ was born of a Virgin,
but God was not His Father.

The specific account is found in 19:16-36, and 4:171. (Note that in this passage Jesus says he will die and rise again, yet elsewhere in the Quran this is refuted.) It is necessary in the Islamic view to portray Jesus in this manner, otherwise, His position, authority, and role would naturally be greater than that of Mohammad.

Jesus own words, which most Muslims regard as authoritative, speak clearly to refute this claim. On many occasions Jesus referred to God as His "Father," not in a respectful tone, but in the literal sense. Jesus said in John 8:42, and 58, "Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God...truthfully, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I Am." Elsewhere Jesus notes, "And now, O Father, glorify me with yourself with the glory which I had with you before the world was." (John 17:5) In each respect Jesus notes He possessed God's own Glory and that He existed before Abraham, using the term "I Am," which was a reference from the Torah, a claim of Deity. Also in John 17:1, "These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you."
