I enjoyed all your information on linear-strip photography. It has helped me in developing my altered camera to make strip images.

Hello Mr. Davidhazy, I went to both of your photo sessions at the UT photo camp. This is my first year of photography and I'm learning very many new things. Among those things is onother ways to look at objects and events and also capturing them and presenting them. You really opened up my eyes on what I can accomplish and what can be done. I really want to built some of your camera equipment and maybe experiment with ideas I may come up with on my own. I really want to thank you for the great time I had at your presentations and for teaching me so much. Sincerely, Max Mironov

Hi Andy, I am a descendant of Frederick Brehm's. My brother actually attended RIT as well. I am wondering if you know where I might find any of his photographs for sale. I understand that you have a camera also that apparently belonged to him? If you could email me a response I would greatly appreciate it. Best Regards, Erin

I am doing a project for my photo 2 class, we were to find 3 photographers that take non-traditional photographs. I choose you as one of my photographers, i choose your picture of the man waving his arms in the air, taken w/ a slow shutter speed so it looks like he has a circle of arms around him. thank you for being non-taditional, and i think that your photos are wonderful.

How Do Andy - Just happened upon your address in an article in the D&C the other day and thought I ought to pop in and see what's up! Really enjoying the digital revolution (working with a Nikon 950 and Canon 101) and shooting tons of snapshots... Thank goodness for the CD burner! Work the 4X5 about once or twice a year for fall color or special occasions. Still consider photo my avocation (paying the bills with a field engineer's job in fiber optics...) but often use the digital cameras (and skills you taught in Industrial) to document 'scope camera presentations, unique technical situations as well as the irresistable "art shots" (sunset at 35K ft., and rural / colorful Americana). My son's in the Engineering technology program at RIT, so the tradition continues! Hope all is well with you and yours.

Dear Andrew, I have read all your articles on panoramic photography and have found them most interesting. I'm an Englishman living and teaching in the South of Italy who stumbled across panoramic photography whilst browsing. I think it's fantastic - I'm a holiday snap and home video person but this has really got me fired up. For a long time now I've been working on a project to record for posterity on film the many beautiful little piazzas in the small towns and villages where I live in the heart of the National Park of Cilento, so when I saw these photos I realised this was for me. My question is, is it possible for someone with a lot of ingenuity but absolutely no knowledge about the workings of a camera to build a 360 panoramic camera? Are there plans out there on the Net? Thanking you for attention, Angus Kirk

I saw your name in the AAPT Announcer (Rochester Meeting). I thought it had to be Hungarian. I found your website but for pages no sign of origin. I almost gave up before coming to the photo of "nagymami". That was it. No more questions. Then I also saw the family coat of arms and remembered where I saw your name: Nagy Ivan, Magyarorszag nemesi csaladai. As a layman I am surprised how many excellent american photographers are of Hungarian origin. If you ever come to Melbourne, FL please visit us at Florida Tech (maybe give a presentation ?). Incidentally, RIT "inherited" one of my young faculty (Physics Department, Rhyne Raffaele). Best regards e's minden jo't, Baksay Laszlo.

I must congratulate you on such fine work. I am 56 years young and I have never seen anything like it. I have been going to NYIP home study photography classes and I have tried to, in the last Year, do my own business without much adue. I am afraid to photograph on my on because of lack of funds and customers. You know the song "If I were a rich man.." well that's me. I wan't to just go out and shoot with no realization of cost. I don't even know if I have the talent for this undertaking that I love. But I thank you for showing off your work. It's really good.

Being at RIT only from 1978-1981 (Biomedical Photographic Communications) I am no doubt too small a blip to be remembered by many. But I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your page of information on former SPAS faculty. My memories of RIT are fond -- especially those of my former office-mate, Tom Iten, a great teacher and an even greater gentleman whom it was my privilege to work with. I must say, the "riches" of RIT quite spoiled me for doing photography once I left. I was never able after that to put together a darkroom that satisfied me. Only now, 20 years later, have I taken it up again with my recent acquisition of an Olympus E-10 digital camera. The experience of being able to accomplish in 20 minutes with Photoshop what it might have taken me 8 hours to accomplish in a "wet" darkroom is quite breathtaking; and I feel like I've simply picked up where I left off. Professionally, I have been focused on marketing communications for the last dozen-and-a-half years -- at the moment as a strategic eBusiness consultant to Fortune 100 pharmaceutical companies. Best wishes to you, Andy and to anyone else who remembers my "meteoric" career at RIT. Cheers.

Hi Andy, Mostly I know about you from your occasional comments as listowner of Photoforum. I though I'd check out the RIT web site, and then I read your last self evaluation. It takes a lot of moxie to put a doucment like that out for public review. I guess not much has changed in academia since I went in other directions in '78. You do a fine job of moderating the Photoforum, and I admire your tolerating so much high tension dialog. I found your site while trying to help my brother-in-law with a project. As a sideline he photographs the finish of horse races at local tracks near his hometown. He apparently has a strip scan camera designed for this job which he purchased when he got in the business. He knows it works but not how it works. He now is wanting to investigate using digital camera technology for this. Is there a way to use current digital cameras, either as is or modified, for this purpose? Really enjoyed your site and photos. Thanks

There I wanted to use splash photo, Crown, which previously I read and watched in some book. In the web I found your photo. Excellent ! I would like to know more about the shutter speed of this photo. I am working Siemens Co, in Japan. where ultra fast imaging is around 0.1 sec. However this is still veru fast for the body motion. Nice site David. But here's what Isn't Nice. : Info on old photo paper mfgs. Talk about a BlackHole! Shall we ask the X-Files to write an eppisode? Camerascamerascameras, oh that's nice. Where is the history of these great old paper makers like: Dupont, Ansco, Dassonville. I can't even find history on the Kodak greats like Portralure M. Today no one makes a great pictorial paper. That's painful, but no history on the great papers seems very odd. History Vanished? Larry Welker LHSA

hi genius andy. i was not surprised when i saw new ideas on your page. andy never stands still. but what ideas... innovative ideas. i will use the sharpest colornegative film ever 400-640 asa(140 lpmm)-fuji superia 100/200 has only 1135 lpmm for use in my 70mm panoramic cameras roundshot and rotating prism camera.fairchild kb 18b. please tell me or one of the readers if there is a 126mm(5 inch-version) around for sale(fairchild ka 92a). it is quit big and heavy. kb-18b(70mm) is about 14 to 25 kg without and with external battery pack(custom made). pls send fax to 0041 613821366 in switzerland

It was nice to find a person who is expertised in uv-photography. I am photographing a shallow water fish in uv in order to find possible uv-body colouration or ornamentation. I would be very pleased, if you would contact me so I could send some more detailed information of my method and questions how to improve it. Very nice site and it brought back memories of my time at RIT in '73 and '74. I was a lousy student, and apologize for that, but it all turned out OK anyway. Very saddened to hear of the death of Hollis Todd, who was my absolute favorite professor. I value the "M&P" course above all others in my work today. Glad so many others are still around and doing well.

Andy or Andrew, Hello, my name is Micah. I am eighteen and currently completing my final year at school. I am at Melbourne High school in Melbourne, Australia and I wish to enter a University course next year in Melbourne named Scientific Photography at RMIT. (Have you heard of it?). I am using photography in certain subjects at school, however I would love to find out some more about the photography you do as I need some understanding of the industry to enter the course. I am really interested to enter this industry and any help from you would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Andrew, very informative site. - I am doing high speed photography and cinematography of Automotive Crash Tests, and enjoy capturing very quick events like airbags, pretensioners, and crash tests themselves. 1000 frames per second on 16mm is what I do normally, and have used up to 25 cameras at once. I would love to show you some of my work.! Look forward to visiting NY sometime soon.

I graduated from the US Navy Course at RIT in 1965. We were a group of about 20 Navy/Marine enlisted photographers. School was called Photographic Science & Instrumentation, but we called it "QC" or Quality Control School. I remember meeting Prof. Neblette, he was the head of the school of photography I believe. Have very fond memories of Professor's Rickmers, Schomaker, and Todd! Saw your website in a complimentary copy of Photo Insider. Looking over your site has brought back some great memories! Thanks.
