Guidelines for Applicants for the
Speaker's Program at PhotoHistory XII
scheduled for September 19-21, 2003 at George Eastman House in Rochester,
NY.
We are pleased that you are interested in presenting. This document
is intended to provide you with helpful instructions on how to prepare
and submit a proposal for consideration for presentation at this prestigious
triennial conference.
Guidelines
Please outline the title of your talk, the scope of your message,
running time, Audio-Visual equipment needs, and anything else you wish
to include. Mention whatever might help the committee understand what your
presentation includes, and why it should fit this event. Our basic
talks have been 45 minutes, but we also consider short presentations on
specific subjects.
Please include a "Bio" of yourself, listing your background, speaking
experience, publications, and/or anything else you would like the Program
Committee to consider related to this proposal.
There are three stages to our procedure, which has evolved over the
thirty three years of these events.
-
1. Abstracts are accepted into early 2003, and are scored by a committee
for their suitability, general appeal, and interest.
-
2. The actual Day of Lectures is assembled from the most promising talks,
to form a well-balanced, educational, and entertaining experience for our
audience of 150-250 registrants.
-
3. High-scoring proposals that don't make the final cut (due to balance
of the overall program) are often invited to come as Backup speakers, so
that we might plug them in, should a scheduled speaker be unable to present.
We need to balance the program, and are fortunate to have backup speakers
from all aspects of PhotoHistory.
Please take the above points as guidelines for submitting a proposal and
once ready send it to the email addresses listed below.
We thank you for your interest in our Symposium, and guarantee you a
most receptive audience.
PhotoHistory is the longest-running series in the world (since 1970),
and has included a very impressive roster of authors, educators, collectors,
and historians. Thanks, for taking part.
Sincerely,
Nicholas M. Graver
