Jesus was the Jewish Messiah,
then again, maybe not.

The Quran claims Messiahship for Jesus Christ. Then is proceeds to deny the role that Messiahship implies.

Jesus said of Himself in John 10:8 "All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers..." Those he spoke of were those claiming some kind of Messiahship or special access to God. He also remarked: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me." With this one passage Jesus eliminated the possibility for salvation through any other. Likewise, He also warned in Matthew 24:5, "For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." Note the context. Those who come are not claiming to be Christ, they are claiming that Jesus is the Christ and by making that acceptable confession then proceed to deceive others with their further teaching.

Is Jesus the Christ? Certainly He is, as Jesus confirmed Peter's confession to such. (Matt. 16:15-17, 26:62-65, note the same confession from His friends and enemies.) The Quran also makes the claim that Jesus was the Christ the Jews were looking for. (3:45) The errors enter in when Jesus if left to be the Messiah but nothing more. Some claim (as did Mohammad) that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah, but nothing more. They then add their own doctrine or teachings regarding Jesus identity. I.E., a half truth is still not the whole truth.
