Teachings of the Quran Compared to biblical doctrines.

The Quran declares of itself, "This book is not to be doubted. It is a guide to the righteous."

The Quran, regarded by Muslims as God's revelation through the prophet Mohammed, also declares that it confirms the the revelations given in the Bible. Imrams 3:1 states very plainly,

"HE HAS REVEALED TO YOU THE BOOK WITH THE TRUTH, CONFIRMING THE SCRIPTURES WHICH PRECEDED IT; FOR HE HAS ALREADY REVEALED THE TORAH AND THE GOSPEL FOR THE GUIDANCE OF MANKIND, AND THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG."

It is the intent of this brief, very abridged work, to compare surah from the Quran with verses from the Bible to illustrate the vast differences that exist in the teachings between the two religions. It is necessary that you view the file "What Muslims Believe About the Bible," in order to understand the comparisons below in their proper context. Muslims today do not believe the Gospels and Torah referred to in the Quran are the same that we have today. This comparison is meant for Christians who wish to learn more about Islam and its variances with Christianity.

Four Principles

The following verses are taken from the Quran: "The Cow."

2:39 "KEEP YOUR COVENANT AND I WILL BE TRUE TO MINE."

In this Quran passage, God's faithfulness is dependent upon the faithfulness of man to keep his side of the bargain. This is also unbiblical. Throughout the Old Testament, God is faithful to the promises He makes irregardless of man's unfaithfulness. 2:39 does not describe a covenant, but a contract. God's covenant are always kept by Him even if they are not kept by man. II Timothy 2:13 states, "If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself."

2:61 "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN GOD AND THE LAST DAY AND DOES WHAT IS RIGHT, SHALL BE REWARDED BY THEIR LORD AND HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR OR REGRET."

Salvation only comes through Jesus Christ and His atoning work on the cross. This passage in the Quran fixes salvation on belief in "God," a "day" and "works." The Bible says in John 14:6, "No one comes to the Father except through Me (Jesus);" and in Ephesians 2:8-9, "You have been saved by grace through faith, it is a gift of God, and not as a result of works that no man can boast."

2:122 "GUARD YOURSELVES AGAINST A DAY ON WHICH NO SOUL SHALL STAND FOR ANOTHER, WHEN NEITHER RANSOM SHALL BE ACCEPTED FROM IT, NOR INTERCESSION AVAIL IT, NOR ANY HELP BE GIVEN IT."

This passage seems to suggest that on the day of judgment, every man must stand before God on his own. There will be no one that can take his guilt for him, of plead to God for him. The Bible already teaches us this is wrong. Jesus Christ took our place on the cross. Matthew 20:28 says, "Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."

1Timothy 2:6 also says, "Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."

Romans 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood."

2:135 "THEY SAY, 'ACCEPT THE JEWISH OR THE CHRISTIAN FAITH AND YOU SHALL BE RIGHTLY GUIDED.' SAY, 'BY NO MEANS! WE BELIEVE IN THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM, THE UPRIGHT ONE. HE WAS NO IDOLATER.'"

This passage teaches that Judaism and Christianity are something separate from what Abraham believed. In actuality, the Law (Judaism) is part of the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham. Christianity (Jesus Christ) the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham and He is also the fulfillment of the law. The writer to Hebrews noted to us that because of this fulfillment, we have "something better."

Romans 4 teaches the role of the Law and of Jesus in fulfilling the promise to Abraham, as does Galatians 3:18 &19, "For if the inheritance [be] of the law, [it is] no more of promise: but God gave [it] to Abraham by promise. Wherefore then [serveth] the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made."

Galatians 3:16 says, "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."

This Quranic passage also equates Judaism and Christianity as idolatry. Yet, if they are two parts of the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham, they cannot be idolatry. Ironically, Mohammad courted Jews and Christians in his early work. Only after they rejected him, did he receive the "revelation" noted above.

2:230 "WHEN A MAN DIVORCES HIS WIFE, HE CANNOT REMARRY HER UNTIL SHE HAS WEDDED ANOTHER MAN AND IS DIVORCED BY HIM." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This Quranic passage is in much the same style as the Old Testament Law, except that it is opposite to the Law God gave. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 stated quite clearly, "When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give [it] in her hand, and send her out of his house. And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's [wife]. And [if] the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth [it] in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her [to be] his wife; HER FORMER HUSBAND, WHO SENT HER AWAY, MAY NOT TAKE HER AGAIN TO BE HIS WIFE, after that she is defiled."

It is important to keep in mind however, that this was under the O.T. law. Under Jesus Christ, we are forgiven of all sin and we may begin with a clean slate.

2:236 "IT SHALL BE NO OFFENSE FOR YOU TO DIVORCE YOUR WIVES BEFORE THE MARRIAGE IS CONSUMMATED OR THE DOWRY IS SETTLED."

Wrong! Malachi 2:16, "I hate divorce." Joseph didn't feel that way about Mary when he "planned secretly to put her away," did he?

2:247 "THEIR PROPHET SAID TO THEM, 'GOD HAS APPOINTED SAUL TO BE YOUR KING.' BUT THEY REPLIED, 'SHOULD HE BE GIVEN THE KINGSHIP, WHEN WE ARE MORE DESERVING OF IT THAN HE? BESIDES, HE IS NOT RICH AT ALL.'"

The biblical account in I Samuel 10 refutes this, only one clan of a tribe despised Saul. "...he (Saul) was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward. And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that [there is] none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king."

2:267 "...TO GIVE ALMS TO THE POOR IN PRIVATE IS BETTER AND WILL ATONE FOR SOME OF YOUR SINS."

The scripture records that only the blood of Jesus Christ can atone for our sins. Romans 5:11, "And not only [so], but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement."


The following verses are taken from the Quran: "The Imran's"

3:8 "SAY TO THE UNBELIEVERS Ñ YOU SHALL BE OVERTHROWN AND DRIVEN INTO HELL, AND EVIL RESTING PLACE."

This verse is partly true. Those who are "unbelievers" "will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven" as the Apostle Paul said. However, the spirit of what is said is not within the character of God's previous revelations.

Numerous passages in the Bible encourage the prophet to speak to unbelievers a message of repentance leading to forgiveness and eternal life Ñ not one of destruction. Destruction is only used as a warning to motivate, even if out of fear, repentance.

Jonah preached at God's command so that the people would repent. Jonah did not want them to repent, God did. This passage in the Quran is representative of man's ways, not God's.

3:15 "SHALL I TELL YOU OF BETTER THINGS THAN THESE, WITH WHICH THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL BE REWARDED BY THEIR LORD? THERE'S SHALL BE GARDENS WATERED BY RUNNING STREAMS, WHERE THEY SHALL DWELL FOREVER, SPOUSES OF PERFECT CHASTITY, AND GRACE FROM GOD." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

Jesus said in Matthew 22:30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven." In other words, women are accorded as servants in Heaven, men are who they serve.

3:19 "THE ONLY TRUE FAITH IN GOD'S SIGHT IS ISLAM."

Nowhere does the Bible say that the only "true faith" is any religious system Ñ not even Judiasm or Christianity. The only way to Heaven, to eternal life, as noted earlier, is by personal faith in the person of Jesus Christ Ñ not a system, or church, or set of teachings.

3:29 "SAY, 'OBEY GOD AND THE APOSTLE.' IF THEY GIVE NO HEED, THEN TRULY, GOD DOES NOT LOVE THE UNBELIEVERS." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

In the Quran, the love of God for a person is dependent upon whether or not a person obeys God. In the Bible, God loves both the believer and the unbeliever, the obedient and the rebellious. He rewards the obedient, and tries to draw the rebellious to Him.

God does not hate unbelievers: Luke 6:35 "But love your enemies, and. . .you shall be like your Father in Heaven: for He is kind unto the unthankful and [to] the evil."

Being like God involves loving our enemies, because He loves His enemies, and doing good to the evil, because He does good to the evil."

3:89 "YOU SHALL NEVER BE TRULY RIGHTEOUS UNTIL YOU GIVE IN ALMS WHAT YOU TRULY CHERISH."

Again, righteousness in the Quran is based upon works. While giving is enjoined in the Bible as a great work, it has nothing to do with being truly righteous. True righteousness is based solely upon the blood of Jesus Christ which washes away our sins:

Romans 3:22 "Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe."

Romans 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one..."

3:118 "BELIEVERS, DO NOT MAKE FRIENDS WITH ANY BUT YOUR OWN PEOPLE."

The Bible advocates the exact opposite of this practice. I Corinthians 5:9 & 10 "I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world..." Paul wrote this because the Christians of his day were withdrawing themselves from friendships with unbelievers. If we followed this practice, then we could not share the truth with them.

Paul only says to withdraw from those who call themselves Christians, who name the name of Christ as their own, but live willfully in sin.

3:132 "VIE WITH EACH OTHER TO EARN THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR LORD AND A PARADISE AS VAST AS HEAVEN AND EARTH, PREPARED FOR THE RIGHTEOUS."

In the Quran, forgiveness is something to be earned, worked for. With Jesus, forgiveness is something granted freely because God loves us. Forgiveness can never be earned, it is a gift of God. Titus 3:5 says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us."

3:178 "LET NOT THE UNBELIEVERS THINK THAT WE PROLONG THEIR DAYS FOR THEIR OWN GOOD, WE GIVE THEM RESPITE ONLY SO THAT THEY MAY COMMIT MORE GRIEVOUS SINS. SHAMEFUL PUNISHMENT AWAITS THEM." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This passage suggest that God allows unbelievers to have long lives so that they might commit more sin that might be punished by God in a greater fashion. The Bible states that God does not grant life so that people might sin more, but that they might have more opportunity to be shown mercy, respond to God's love and be granted eternal life.

Romans 2:4 "Do you despise the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?"

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."


The following verses are taken from the Quran: "Women."

4:1 "IF YOU FEAR THAT YOU CANNOT TREAT ORPHANS WITH FAIRNESS, THEN YOU MAY MARRY OTHER WOMEN THAT SEEM GOOD TO YOU: TWO, THREE OR FOUR OF THEM."

This passage promotes multiple marriage as a permissive rule. The Old and New Testament's did not encourage multiple marriages. Jesus Himself gave God's preference in the matter in Mark 10:8 "And they TWO shall be ONE flesh: so then they are no more TWO, but ONE flesh."

4:13 "BUT HE WILL NOT FORGIVE THOSE WHO DO EVIL AND, WHEN DEATH COMES TO THEM, SAY, 'NOW WE REPENT!'" [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

While this might seem to be a verse that is just, and makes sense; it also rubs against the testimony Jesus gave to the thief who died on the cross next to Jesus. The Bible records that two thieves were crucified with Jesus and that they both hurled insults at him while they all hung on the cross: (Mark 15:32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.) Yet, the Bible records that one of these two men repented and changed His mind about Jesus.

Luke 23:42 & 43 "And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."

This man did exactly what the Quran says will not be forgiven and He was forgiven.

4:34 "GOOD WOMEN ARE OBEDIENT...AS FOR THOSE FROM WHOM YOU FEAR DISOBEDIENCE, ADMONISH THEM AND SEND THEM TO BEDS APART AND BEAT THEM."

This Quranic verse departs from biblical treatment of women. Nowhere in the Bible does God command a husband to inflict physical punishment on his wife for any reason. In fact, the New Testament model is different in the extreme, Ephesians 5:28, "Husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies." Paul also remarks in Colossians 3:19, "Husbands lov your wives and do not be harsh with them."

4:82 "WILL THEY NOT PONDER ON THE KORAN? IF IT HAD NOT COME FROM GOD, THEY COULD HAVE SURELY FOUND IN IT MANY CONTRADICTIONS."

Probably the best example of contradiction with the Quran is in the opening verse of "The Imran's."

"HE HAS REVEALED TO YOU THE BOOK WITH THE TRUTH, CONFIRMING THE SCRIPTURES WHICH PRECEDED IT; FOR HE HAS ALREADY REVEALED THE TORAH AND THE GOSPEL FOR THE GUIDANCE OF MANKIND..."

The Quran claims that it confirms the Bible, then it proceeds to rewrite events in the Gospel accounts, thus, denying the Gospel.

By way of two examples:

· The Gospel of Luke records the prophecy of and birth of John the Baptist. "The Imran's" records a different account.

· All four Gospel's record the account of Jesus death on the cross, a death prophecied about in the Old Testament. "Women" says that "they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, they thought they did."

It is an impossibility that the Quran can both wholly confirm and deny the biblical accounts. The Quran cannot both label the Gospel's as true, and then refer to their historical accounts as lies Ñ yet it does. Most Muslims believe that this is explained by the teaching that the Gospels we have today are not the same Gospel Mohammad referred to. However, this is not true. In every reference to the Torah and Gospels in the Quran, Mohammad refers to them in the PRESENT TENSE; thus signifying their existence during his time. In one passge, Mohammad even tells Jews and Christians to look to the Torah and Injeel since they have them. Subsiquent centuries of commentators and scholars use the same Gospels (Injeel) we have today as their reference.

4:114 "GOD WILL NOT FORGIVE IDOLATRY."

I Corinthians 6:9-11 "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters...shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."

4:157-158 "THEY DENIED THE TRUTH AND UTTERED A MONSTROUS FALSEHOOD AGAINST MARY. THEY DECLARED: 'WE HAVE PUT TO DEATH THE MESSIAH, JESUS THE SON OF MARY, THE APOSTLE OF GOD.' THEY DID NOT KILL HIM, NOR DID THEY CRUCIFY HIM, BUT THEY THOUGHT THEY DID...THEY DID NOT SLAY HIM FOR CERTAIN. GOD LIFTED HIM UP TO HIM..." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This one section of the Quran pretends to correct the "errors" in the biblical accounts in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Not only this, but secular historians like Josephus and others make remarks that Jesus, who was the Messiah, was crucified by the Jews and Romans. The Hadith, a class of writings Muslims believe Mohammad spoke, teach that Jesus was swtiched with Judas at the time, and it was actually Judas who was crucified. If that were true then God would have crucified an inoccent man against his will (as oppsed to Jesus who wanted to die for us). Also, there is the unanswered question of, "Who hung himself?"

4:171 "PEOPLE OF THE BOOK [CHRISTIANS], DO NOT TRANSGRESS THE BOUNDS OF YOUR RELIGION. SPEAK NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH ABOUT GOD. THE MESSIAH, JESUS THE SON OF MARY WAS NO MORE THAN GOD'S APOSTLE AND HIS WORD WHICH HE CAST TO MARY: A SPIRIT FROM HIM. SO BELIEVE IN GOD AND HIS APOSTLES AND DO NOT SAY, 'THREE.' FORBEAR, AND IT SHALL BE BETTER FOR YOU. GOD IS BUT ONE GOD. GOD FORBID THAT HE SHOULD HAVE A SON!" [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This passage denies the trinity, and that Jesus Christ was God's only Son. Interestingly, the language used about how Mary conceived Jesus should be noted (although this is an English translation). "JESUS...WAS NO MORE THAN GOD'S...WORD WHICH HE CAST TO MARY..."

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD."

This verse of the Quran contradicts itself in light of what the New Testament claims about Jesus Christ


The following verses are taken from the Quran: "The Table."

5:3 "YOU ARE FORBIDDEN CARRION, BLOOD AND THE FLESH OF SWINE; ALSO ANY FLESH DEDICATED TO ANY OTHER GOD...ALSO OF ANIMALS SACRIFICED TO IDOLS"

Several Bible passages speak contrary to this Quranic passage.

Acts 10:11-15 "And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were all manner of four footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice [spake] unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, [that] call not thou common."

Romans 14:14-7 "I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that [there is] nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him [it is] unclean. But if thy brother be grieved with [thy] meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."

I Corinthians 8:8 &10: "But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse....For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols..."

5:12 "GOD MADE A COVENANT WITH THE ISRAELITES...GOD SAID, 'I SHALL BE WITH YOU. IF YOU ATTEND TO YOUR PRAYERS AND RENDER THE ALMS LEVY; IF YOU BELIEVE IN MY APOSTLES AND ASSIST THEM AND GIVE GOD A GENEROUS LOAN, I SHALL FORGIVE YOU YOUR SINS AND ADMIT YOU TO GARDENS WATERED BY RUNNING STREAMS."

Here again, forgiveness and righteousness are based upon works that man does instead of on the work the Jesus did on the cross. The Quran also states that this was part of the covenant that God made with the Israelites. What is left out of this mention of the covenant (besides the fact that the above is not recorded in the scriptures) are the sacrifices.

The Law required regular sacrifices for the forgiveness of sin. Without those sacrifices, there was no forgiveness.

5:15 "UNBELIEVERS ARE THOSE WHO DECLARE: 'GOD IS THE MESSIAH, THE SON OF MARY.'"

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ was the only Son of God, equal to God in every respect, and He became the Messiah. Jesus Himself claimed these things.

Phillippians 2:5-8, "Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

John 8:23, 24, 56-58, "And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins....Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw [it], and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."

5:44-48, "AFTER THEM WE SENT FORTH JESUS, THE SON OF MARY, CONFIRMING THE TORAH ALREADY REVEALED, AND GAVE HIM THE GOSPEL, IN WHICH THERE IS GUIDANCE AND LIGHT, CORROBORATING WHAT WAS REVEALED BEFORE IT IN THE TORAH, A GUIDE AND AN ADMONITION TO THE RIGHTEOUS. THEREFORE, LET THOSE WHO FOLLOW THE GOSPEL JUDGE ACCORDING TO WHAT GOD HAS REVEALED THEREIN...AND TO YOU WE HAVE REVEALED THE BOOK WITH THE TRUTH. IT CONFIRMS THE SCRIPTURES WHICH CAME BEFORE IT AND STANDS AS A GUARDIAN OVER THEM." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This Quranic passage does several things:

· It claims that God's Word needs continuing confirmation. "CONFIRMING THE TORAH ALREADY REVEALED," "CORROBORATING WHAT WAS REVEALED BEFORE IT IN THE TORAH," "CONFIRMS THE SCRIPTURES WHICH CAME BEFORE IT."

· It places the Quran in a place above both the Old and New Testaments. "STANDS AS A GUARDIAN OVER THEM."

· Claims that all three, Old and New Testament's and the Quran, agree.

None of these is true. The passage claims that Jesus was "given" the "Gospel," contrary to the biblical teaching that Jesus is the Gospel. The Koran, while claiming to agree with the Bible, spends considerable effort altering or denying selected biblical records. (See my previous works on "The Cow," "The Imran's," and "Women.")

The Quran cannot be placed in a rank higher than that of the Bible when it claims to agree with it, then denies its truth. It, therefore, must be an inferior work, with origins not from God.

5:51 "BELIEVERS, TAKE NEITHER JEWS NOR CHRISTIANS FOR YOUR FRIENDS. THEY ARE FRIENDS WITH ONE ANOTHER. WHOEVER OF YOU SEEKS THEIR FRIENDSHIP SHALL BECOME ONE OF THEIR NUMBER."

Well, let's hope the latter part of that Surah is always true! However, Romans 12:18 remarks, "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."

5:73 "UNBELIEVERS ARE THOSE WHO SAY: 'GOD IS ONE OF THREE.' THERE IS BUT ONE GOD. IF THEY DO NOT DESIST FROM SO SAYING, THOSE OF THEM THAT DISBELIEVE SHALL BE STERNLY PUNISHED." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This Quranic passage denies the concept of the trinity, which the Scriptures support.

GOD THE FATHER: Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I [am] the FIRST, and I [am] the LAST; and beside me [there is] no God."

GOD THE SON: Revelation 2:8 "And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the FIRST and the LAST, which was DEAD, and is ALIVE..."

GOD THE SON: Revelation 22:13 & 16, "I am ALPHA and OMEGA, the beginning and the end, the FIRST and the LAST...I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches."

Phillippians 2 states that "Jesus emptied Himself." If Jesus truly became a man, just like other men, then "preaching in the cradle" is in fact an impossibility.

The only records of Jesus ever fashioning something and later making that thing alive are found in the Pseudepigrapha. By the beginning of the 3rd century, these writings were classed as forgiers, fiction, or important writings of dubious authority.

3:114, "THEN GOD WILL SAY: "JESUS SON OF MARY, DID YOU EVER SAY TO MANKIND: 'WORSHIP ME AND MY MOTHER AS GODS BESIDES GOD?' 'GLORY TO YOU,' HE WILL ANSWER, 'HOW COULD I EVER SAY THAT TO WHICH I HAVE NO RIGHT?'"

In every instance when men tried to bow in homage or worship to an angel, that angel refused to accept such, and ordered the person to rise. This happened to Daniel and to John during the Revelation. However, when the disciples bowed in homage to Jesus, Jesus accepted their act.

John 20:27-29, "Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed."


The following verses are taken from the Quran: "The Cattle"

6:8 "IF WE HAD MADE HIM AN ANGEL, WE WOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM THE SEMBLANCE OF A MAN, AND WOULD HAVE THUS ADDED TO THEIR CONFUSION."

This passage tells us that if God would have sent an angel to bring God's message to man, the angel would have been made into a man. This is a stumbling block for some, as Jesus Christ, was God, who was made in the semblance of a man that He might live and die as a man for our sins. If Muslims accept that God would have done this with an angel, why not then do it Himself?

Philippians 2:5-11, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

6:51 "WARN THOSE WHO DREAD TO BE ASSEMBLED BEFORE THEIR LORD THAT THEY HAVE NO GUARDIAN OR INTERCESSOR BESIDES GOD, SO THAT THEY MAY GUARD THEMSELVES AGAINST EVIL."

6:70 "THEY SHALL HAVE NO GUARDIAN OR INTERCESSOR BESIDES GOD."

The Bible states that there are 2 intercessor's on our behalf before God. One is with us, and One is our High Priest Ñ Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:26, "the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

Romans 8:34, "Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

Hebrews 7:25, "Wherefore He (Jesus Christ) is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them."

6:81-82 "WHICH OF US IS MORE DESERVING OF SALVATION? TELL ME IS YOU KNOW THE TRUTH. THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH AND DO NOT TAINT THEIR FAITH WITH WRONGDOING SHALL SURELY EARN SALVATION, FOR THEY FOLLOW THE RIGHT PATH."

This passage places Abraham arguing with his detractors, saying that he was worthy of the salvation God gave him for the stated reasons. The Scripture disagrees with this....

Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Romans 4:16 "Therefore [it is] of faith, that [it might be] by grace...."

Abraham did do wrong in God's sight, thus tainting his "faith." Since it is by "grace" that salvation is given, "earning" salvation is not part of God's plan.

6:92 "THIS IS THE BLESSED BOOK WHICH WE HAVE REVEALED, CONFIRMING WHAT CAME BEFORE IT..."

6:101 "HE IS THE CREATOR OF HEAVENS AND THE EARTH. HOW SHOULD HE HAVE A SON WHEN HE HAS NO CONSORT?

This passage assumes that in order for God to have a son, God would have to do this in the same way that men do; but, God cannot have a wife, thus, He cannot have a son.

The basic assumption of this passage is incorrect according to what the New Testament tells us is the account of Jesus conception and birth. Interestingly enough, it is also the major stumbling block to many Jews. They also struggle with the concept of God having a Son, since God could not have a wife.

Matthew 1:20, "....the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost."

Luke 1:34-35, "Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

The conception of Jesus Christ is not claimed to have happened by God taking Mary as His consort; rather, it was a supernatural act. God created Jesus Christ in the womb in a new an supernatural way. The Old Testament prophesied this:

Jeremiah 31:22, "....for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall encompass a man."

Some have said that this is not a reference to the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, male children are always encompassed by their mothers. Yet, why would God state this as a "new thing" if it was not truly miraculous. This was a virgin birth.

6:118, 121, "EAT ONLY THAT OF WHICH HAS BEEN CONSECRATED IN THE NAME OF GOD, IF YOU TRULY BELIEVE IN HIS REVELATIONS...THEREFORE, DO NOT EAT OF THAT WHICH HAS NOT BE CONSECRATED IN THE NAME OF GOD, FOR THAT WOULD BE SINFUL..."

There is a biblical admonition that sounds similar to this passage. It, however, is quite different in meaning. This Quranic passage requires food be consecrated "in the name of God," or eating it is sinful. I Timothy 1-5 states: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils....Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer."

Acts 10:13-15, "And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice [spake] unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, [that] call not thou common."

In these passages we see that the foods formerly "unclean" are made "clean" by God Himself declaring (His Word) that Peter should "kill and eat." Thus, eating without praying is not a sin. God has already sanctified our food Ñ He, after all, created it. God did this to remove trivialities and give us freedom in Christ:

Romans 14:17 "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."

6:128 "HE WILL SAY: THE FIRE SHALL BE YOUR HOME, AND THERE YOU SHALL REMAIN FOREVER UNLESS GOD ORDAIN OTHERWISE." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

This verse seems to imply that God may change His mind about someone staying in Hell. The Bible refutes this. Jesus stated in advance of the Quran that the sinner's abode in Hell will not be escapable. We can only avoid Hell by deciding to believe in Jesus now.

Matthew 23:33 "[Ye] serpents, [ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" (Implication: You can't.)

6:141 "HE (GOD) DOES NOT LOVE THE PRODIGAL." [GO TO CONTENT TABLE]

Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Titus 3:3 "For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared...."

6:145 "SAY: I FIND NOTHING IN WHAT HAS BEEN REVEALED TO ME THAT FORBIDS MEN TO EAT ANY GOOD EXCEPT CARRION, RUNNING BLOOD, AND THE FLESH OF SWINE Ñ AND ANY FLESH THAT HAS BEEN PROFANELY CONSECRATED TO GODS OTHER THAN GOD."

Also, note Paul's words in I Corinthians 8:4, 7-8, "As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other God but one....for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat [it] as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse."

6:159 "HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THOSE WHO HAVE SPLIT UP THEIR RELIGION INTO SECTS. GOD WILL CALL THEM INTO ACCOUNT AND DECLARE TO THEM WHAT THEY HAVE DONE."

The following verses are taken from the Quran: "The Heights" & "The Spoils."

7:19 "TO ADAM HE SAID: 'DWELL WITH YOUR WIFE IN PARADISE, AND EAT OF ANY FRUIT YOU PLEASE; BUT NEVER APPROACH THIS TREE OR YOU SHALL BOTH BECOME TRANSGRESSORS'....THEIR LORD CALLED OUT TO THEM, 'DID I NOT FORBID YOU TO APPROACH THAT TREE....?'"

Two different English versions of the Quran that I checked translate this as "approach" or "go near;" thus, what is forbidden is to approach the tree as well as the biblical admonition not to eat of its fruit. The biblical account did not forbid going near the tree. In fact, not going near the tree, would in fact, be impossible, as both trees were together in the center of the garden and Adam and Eve were allowed access to the Tree of Life before the fall (Genesis 3:9).

Genesis 3:16-17 "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

7:31 "HE (GOD) DOES NOT LOVE THE INTEMPERATE."

7:55 "HE DOES NOT LOVE THE TRANSGRESSORS."

Certainly God bears no love for man's sin, but for the sinner He holds great love. These biblical passages point to God's great unmerited love for us:

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world..."

Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

"But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us..."

"Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;"

Titus 3:3-6 "For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour..."

I John 4:10 "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins."

7:43 "AND A VOICE WILL CRY OUT TO THEM SAYING, 'THIS IS THE PARADISE WHICH YOU HAVE EARNED WITH YOUR LABOURS."

As pointed out in earlier releases of these text, God's favor is not bestowed because of our "works," rather, because of His grace Ñ unmerited favor. (Ephesians 2:8-9.)
